Web Design Trends in 2019 and How to Use Them?

Web Design Trends in 2019 need to follow. Millions of people around the world now have their own platform online. Not all websites are created equal, however, and while some may think that good design is all about fancy aesthetics, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Indeed.

Top-Notch Dezigns' Derek Robinson explains how different aspects of design play an important role in how your audience experiences your content. The different design elements on your website should make it (and you) credible and trustworthy. And to do this, it's important to cover the basics, especially for those building their very own website or would at least like to have a hand in the design process.

Respected web developer Brad Hussey has a number of useful courses on Udemy that teach the basics that you need to learn about to create an engaging website, which includes using Adobe Photoshop, sketching professional wireframes, and even creating custom animations.

Web Design Trends- Table of Content

  • Micro-Interactions
  • Thumb-Friendly Navigation
  • Chatbots

While you don’t have to be an expert in these areas, it’s useful to understand the basics before going into the latest design trends, or at the very least, be able to express what you want from your designer.

Now, once you've got those covered, let's dive into the web design trends of 2019 and how you can use them, too.

Micro-Interactions

Smiley face Envato's Anna Lucas explains that micro-interactions are a good way to keep your audience engaged, but what is a micro-interaction? This is a single task-based interaction that users have with a device or interface. Good real-world examples of this would be the snooze button on your alarm.

Websites use this via Facebook's responsive react functions or Twitter's animated retweet button. Now, what makes for good micro-interactions? Ironically, good micro-interactions are ones that you barely notice. Effective micro-interactions are intuitive and do not require explanations or instructions, being unabrasive as possible while still keeping your audience engaged.

The key here is simplicity, which you can achieve through constant testing. Remember that attention to detail is what sets exceptional websites apart, so go through the site map of your website and take note of every little experience a user will have on it.

Thumb-Friendly Navigation

Smiley face Mobile browsing has completely taken over how we consume media. Statista details that 52.2% of all website traffic worldwide in 2018 was generated through mobile phones, a number that is rising every day.

This is why more and more websites have been optimised for mobile, which AIS Technolabs' Sunny Chawla explains requires you to build a concise version of your site that has all the important parts without losing the identity and style of the original.

Alongside this, designers are looking towards optimising mobile browsing via thumb-friendly navigation. To begin, remember that thumbs are less precise than cursors, and it is now the web designer's responsibility to make up for this and adjust accordingly.

Try moving menus to the bottom of the screen for better thumb accessibility, and making links and buttons larger for thumb use.

Chatbots

Smiley face Chatbots were once seen as a mere gimmick, but 2019 has seen more and more people turn to chatbots as a way to enhance their website's user experience. For beginners, free chatbot services such as SnatchBot can be an invaluable addition to your website, as they specialise in building chatbots for websites and other platforms like Messenger, Slack, and Twilio.

The most important thing to keep in mind when designing your chatbot is user experience. Make sure the chatbot is as welcoming as possible, all while contextualising how this bot can help users with their queries. You can do this by giving the users a set of quick responses to frame interactions, minimising the effort needed to express their concerns and find solutions for them.
